I'll like to apologize for not being able to update our blog since December; we have been having technical challenges with managing the site. First the computer on which we have most of our field pictures crashed with virus and secondly our friend who has been in charge has not been available; we are gradually moving round the situation and we should begin to give update regularly very soon.
Our plan to give support to as many as 100 schools in each State has taken off in Ogun State and Kwara State with a few schools that have shown interest, the challenge is mainly with securing permission of State Ministries of Education. Many more schools have confirmed their interest and we should be having several training workshops for school counselors and student peer educators starting from next term when schools resume.
Already, feedback from some of the schools has been very encouraging because the training and the young clubs that have been started are beginning to make some impact in the schools and their immediate communities. The principle is that the community would influence the school if the school does not influence its community.
SHOUT OUT ... YOU DONT HAVE TO USE IT!
Endeavor to stay above the influence to use alcohol, tobacco or drugs this holiday even if you have to attend parties; put up a flier that warns about the effects of drugs abuse in your neighborhood ...YOU DONT HAVE TO USE IT!

COUNSELLING SUPPORT WORKS FOR DRUG DEPENDENT PERSONS
At least four out of ten 16 years old male and four out of ten 14 years old females in most of our communities are on at least one form of illicit or addictive substances or the other. Front line among substances abused is alcohol, tobacco products and marijuana (Indian hemp); cocaine is not readily affordable for many although it is becoming more available in Nigeria and West Africa sub region.
Most users of illicit and addictive substances are not initially aware that these substances are addictive until they get hooked and the urge to use them begins to come again and again. It is not usually noticed as a threat because the unit cost of the drugs is small and readily affordable e.g the cost of snuff, a stick of cigarette, a bottle of alcohol or a wrap of marijuana.
Increasing quantities are needed with more frequency of use over time which therefore brings heavy financial burden; it is a one way route that leads to accidents, violence, emotional imbalance, damage to internal organs, mental illness, personal frustrations, and so on.
Users need conscious effort to stop drug dependence; many who have been using drugs for a long time may not be able to stop on their own without proper counselling and support/ rehabilitation. Despite withdrawal symptoms, even addicts can recover over a period of time.
CSIAIAD provides counselling, support and rehabilitation to those who need help through our network of partners.
DRUGS CAMPAIGN
CSIAIAD is established with a view to bringing interested parties into a network of partners that maintain a sustainable enlightenment campaign on the evils of drug abuse among youths through a "Reach The Kids Before Drugs Do" strategy. Most people get into the habit of using drugs because they were not aware of its dependence and addictive effects. CSIAIAD offers counselling, care and rehabilitation to support drug dependent persons.
